Our Team

Ridgegate Home was established as a Registered Charity in 1946. It is a private, non-profit making residence for elderly people who, for various reasons, are unable to maintain a home of their own.

The home is administered by a Board of Governors, which has an active role in the running of the home. The Governors and the Home Manager take great pride in offering a highly professional care service for older people.

Ridgegate is a large, detached period building, which accommodates twenty-five residents. The homely and elegant ambience of the original building has been maintained during a process of dedicated upgrading to conform to today's standards. The atmosphere of the home is further enhanced by careful choice of decoration and furnishings, which create that essential cosy feeling. The home stands in its own attractive grounds in a residential area, and has ample parking facilities. Access to the home itself is made 'wheel chair friendly' by means of a ramp to the front of the house. or access to the house by lift from the garden.

Our residents have many different requirements. Some come only for a few days of respite care to give their regular carers a break. Some come for a few weeks after a period in hospital in order to regain their full strength before returning home. A large proportion choose to make Ridgegate their permanent home. The home identifies the needs and preferences of its residents, recognising and respecting their uniqueness and their personal needs. The home will encourage residents to achieve their own level of maximum potential in a safe and risk free environment, whether their stay at our home is short term or on a permanent basis

We have one large lounge with two beautiful period fireplaces where communal social activities take place. We also have a cosy lounge-cum-library where residents can entertain their friends in peace and privacy. A reception room, known as the Green Room is available to the residents where they can make and receive phone calls in private. The bedrooms vary in size and the vast majority benefit from en-suite facilities. They are all tastefully furnished. Residents may bring their own furniture and the rooms contain facilities for private telephones and TV. Call bells have been installed in every room including the toilets and bathrooms, if you require assistance of any nature. The bedrooms are situated on four floors with a passenger lift serving all floors, also access from the lift directly to the garden.

The ample kitchen and bright pleasant dining room are situated on the lower ground floor. All meals are home cooked, using fresh produce and special diets are catered for. In the warmer summer months you may choose to make use of our large garden. Maybe to just sit and read in or play a little crochet on the lawn. On sunny days, afternoon tea is served on the lawn for those who wish. You could even get yourself involved in a spot of gardening in our greenhouse.

The home has a modern fire alarm system which meets all requirements laid down by the Fire Service. The alarm system is tested weekly and full fire drills are carried out periodically. All staff, as part of the induction process, receives full instruction on fire procedure and prevention; this is ongoing training for all staff.

Residents and the home manager meet every 2 months formally to discuss and take views on activities and trips and generally discuss any issues arising within the home. We encourage everyone to attend though it is not compulsory. All views are taken seriously.

Regardless of your length of stay we would want you to consider that from the moment you arrive, Ridgegate is your home. You have the freedom to spend your time as you wish. We have areas where you could socialise and invite your guests for lunch or listen to your choice of music, watch your choice of television or just read. The choice is always yours. You can choose to participate in some or all of the activities organized. Our activities sheet is revised and distributed every month and we welcome your ideas and try to make it as varied as possible.

Our fees are always competitive with maintaining our standard of care and facilities. For more details on our fees please Contact Us
